THIS COURSE IS PART OF THE ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING AN EOV MONITOR.

Join us for this 4-day training at the beautiful Timshel Wildland in Central Virginia on monitoring ecological outcomes as part of the EOV platform through the Savory Institute and become an accredited monitor.

Tickets are limited to maintain both the intimacy and spirit of this course alongisde the hands-on component! Along with the learning portion of this course, all students will assist in the ACTUAL EOV Monitoring of Timshel's landbase!! Learn by learning AND learn by doing!

Course Details

Cost: $1,250 USD (Includes 2 locally sourced, delicious meals a day, instruction, and materials).

Lodging: Tent, car camping, and indoor lodging options are available onsite for additional fees.

Each ticket includes the admission into the course, along with two locally-sourced meals a day. Lodging is avialable for an additional fee, from glamping in our Wildwood Decks to indoor accomadation with wifi, a full kitchen, and shared bathroom spaces.

In this course, you will learn:

Introduction to EOV and Holistic Management

Learn the foundations of Holistic management (Ecosystems Processes and Key Insights) alongside how these foundations apply to monitoring via EOV's protocol.

Monitoring Plan

Learn about mapping solutions and strata definition and identification.

Before field monitoring, the plan must be created. This course will dive deep into the art and science of EOV monitoring plan creation!

Plant ID and Ecosystem Analysis

Learn how to monitor a rich diversity of meadow grasses, forbs, legumes, and more! This is the art of monitoring and, questionably, the most important part!

Short Term Monitoring

Learn via in classroom discussions AND field work how to complete Short Term Monitoring, that is, the leading and yearly indicators of ecosystem development.

Long Term Monitoring

Learn via in classroom discussions AND field work how to complete Long Term Monitoring, that is, the lagging and twice-decade indicators of ecosystem development.

How does the course work?

When should we plan to arrive?

We will start first thing the morning of May 6th, so, if you are staying on site, please plan to arrive the night prior. That way, we can settle you in, meet one another and prepare for the start of the course!

How much does this course cost?

For this intimate, completely hands-on, and small sized course, ticket for admission and food is: $1,250 Lodging is optional and additionally charged.

I have never done anything like this before? Do I need previous experience to attend this course?

Absolutely and entirely no! All experience levels are welcome. This course does not require or even recommend previous experience and is so constructed to provide everything you need to learn the skill and art of Ecological Outcome Verification. If you have learned Holistic Management in the past and/or are an Accredited Professional of the Savory Institute, that will help your understanding, but it is in no way required!

This EOV Monitoring Comprehensive is taught by Daniel Griffith, a storyteller, emergent conservationist, lover of the wildwoods, and bestselling author of books such as Dark Cloud County, Wild Like Flowers and Boone.
